Briggs & Stratton, MTD or Techumsah. What is the best brand out there, reasonably priced in the 22,24 inch size.

Personally I prefer Briggs engines. And, consider electric start on whatever engine you choose.

A lot of people think briggs and stratton is the better engine, and maybe it is, but I’ve had a snowblower with a 10 hp Tecumseh for a few years now and have never had any trouble with it.

I don’t think MTD builds their own engines. According to a small engine shop nearby Tecumseh is not manufacturing engines at the moment, but parts are still available. That makes Briggs&Stratton the only option of the three. There are other small manufacturers whose engines you could consider as well. Honda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Hyundai might be available for snowblowers as well.

When you are considering the engine compare overhead vs side valve, pressurized vs splash oil lubrication, look for cast iron cylinder sleeve, etc.
