How can I tell what my engine light is on for?
My 1990 Honda CRX DX’s stock engine was swapped out for the D16Y7 engine. The engine light is on. My 2000 Civic’s engine light was on so I took it into Schucks and they gave me that engine light reader that you plug into another plug under the steering wheel near the fuse box down there. I noticed that my 1990 Honda CRX DX doesn’t have that plug that the engine light reader plugs into. So how can I tell why my engine light is on for?
Many shops will check and tell you for free. You can also buy a ODBII tool at many auto parts and tool suppliers for anywhere from $50 to hundreds. Also disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and then reconnect and restart. If its still there you might need a mechanic, if its gone but then shows up after a minute or two, it could just be an O2 sensor. The plug may be in the glove box, the passenger side or under the hood, or behind a removable panel. Call around get it checked for free.
You need to find the diagnostic wire and jump it to read the flashing light to get the code.
On a car manafactured in 1990 there will be no diagnostic connector. Theres various ways of checking, but to be honest, saving yourself time and money, if the engine sounds and seems fine, ignore it
.
Since u said u swap the engined then u shud just disconect the battery that way u will be reseting the comp of the car disconect the negative and is better if u leave it. Overnight!! Have thessame engine sometimes is just needs a drop of oil or lil things shudnt be that serious!
the first thing to check on is the codes in your computer. if it,s electrical then the code will show up. auto zone can check your computer for you for free. if a code comes up then they will tell you what the code means.
