Any parts of car engine to avoid if spraying with water to clean?
Hello,
I’d like to spray off my car engine with water to clean it. Are there any parts I should stay away from per spraying?
Also, they have cans of chemical engine cleaner at places like auto parts stores. You spray it on your engine and it dissolves grease/dirt and then after awhile, you spray it off with water. Does this stuff work well? Any parts of engine that should be avoided if spraying this stuff?
I’d like my engine to have a nice clean look to it. Per the above, what do you suggest?
Thanks!
Distributor and coils, all the rest gets wet with normal driving anyways.
Don’t Spray in the air box sorry
try to avoid direct spraying on any of your sensors also if water gets on them it may trip your check engine light. then you will have a reapir bill
I clean my engine all the time. You do not want spray off engine when its really hot. Engine cleaner really work, but should avoid electronic ignition parts, fuel injection, spark plug wires, carburetor in older cars. A clean engine runs cooler, and you can detect leaks early.
no problem.do use the cleaner.works great.let the engine dry.then start it.if it does not start.wait a while longer. good luck.
Hi Bill;
If you have a carburetor, remove the air filter and housing and cover the carb with a plastic bag. Spray the spark plug and coil wires with WD-40 and avoid directing a spray on them, otherwise everything else is pretty water proof. The commercial de-greasing products are useful. this process will make a mess on whatever you are parked on, but you already knew that.
